Login in two steps

You probably noticed it when you submitted your tax return, claimed expenses from your health insurer or visited the Pension Planner: the procedure for logging in with your DigiD has been changed. In addition to your user name and password, you now need an extra security check to log in.

The government keeps raising the bar for digital data security. You used to be able to login with your user name and password, but a second security check has been added. This has raised DigiD's security level from ‘low’ to ‘medium’.

It's up to you
You decide which second security check you prefer using:

SMS code
You receive an SMS code on your mobile phone or a spoken code on your landline. In either case, you indicate your choice in your MyDigiD account.

DigiD app
You install the DigiD app on your mobile phone. The DigiD app is available for iOS and Android. You can only download the app from official stores. When you have downloaded the app, you activate it. Instructions are available on the DigiD website.

You can use the app to login from your:

- mobile phone or tablet. From now on, you use a pin code to login.
- desktop computer and the browser of the relevant web service or organisation. Next, you follow three steps to login: copy the link code appearing in your app to your desktop computer, scan the QR code appearing on your desktop computer and enter the pin code in your app.
